Answer:

Over 100 million. The American Friends Service Committee has supported people displaced by conflict and other crises since our founding in 1917. Today, we provide humanitarian relief and other support to displaced people from Ukraine, Turkey, Gaza, Somalia, South Sudan, El Salvador, and many other countries.

What percent of displaced people are children?

Answer:

Children make up 30% of the world's population, but 40% of all displaced people. Around the world, AFSC works with displaced children and families. We help families stay safe and together, learn about their rights, and access trauma healing. In the U.S., we offer free legal services and help families advocate to stay together when members are facing deportation.

What are the most common reasons a person flees their home country?

Answer:

All of the above. People are forced to leave their homes for many reasons. Most face daunting challenges in rebuilding their lives. AFSC helps people access trauma healing, livelihoods training, and other supports to heal and thrive. We also help communities address the root causes of migration, supporting locally led efforts to build lasting peace so all people can flourish.

One-third of the world's refugees are in Africa.

Answer:

True. Around 30 million internally displaced people, refugees, and asylum-seekers live in Africa, representing nearly one-third of the world's refugee population. In South Sudan, Somalia, Zimbabwe, and Burundi, AFSC supports communities who are healing from the traumas of war, building sustainable economies, and reknitting the fabric of their lives.
